Sheila Kurtzer, outgoing president of the Hadassah International Corps Diplomatique, hosted an event for the Corps in her residence for 70 participants. Mrs. Kurtzer graciously welcomed the new president, Liu Shuqin, wife of the Chinese Ambassador to Israel, His Excellency Chen Younglong. She also took the opportunity to encourage Corps members and the Israeli women who attended to affiliate for life with Hadassah. (The Corps Diplomatique is comprised of ambassadors to Israel and their spouses.)

Ilana Weissmark entered HMO’s delivery room when she was nine months pregnant. During delivery, she developed an amniotic fluid embolism and collapsed. In this serious clinical scenario, amniotic fluid infiltrates the mother's blood vessels and causes a very severe allergic reaction. In most cases, this leads to the mother’s death. But HMO’s doctors realized Illana was in trouble and immediately started resuscitation, cardiac massage, and mechanical ventilation. At the same time, they worked to deliver the baby.

With the help of Hadassah Mexico Director Ethel Fainstein, Hadassah America’s youth movement, Young Judaea, was able to forge bonds with the youth of Mexico City and entice them to see Israel through the eyes of Hadassah.

HMO’s unique service, transporting the sick and wounded from overseas to Hadassah Hospital, was called into action recently to bring a patient from Bratislava in the Czech Republic to Israel for treatment. Pictured here are Professor Yoel Donchin, head of HMO’s Critical Care Transport Unit, with Critical Care Nurse Julie Benvenistie, filling two backpacks with the necessary special equipment for this mission.

The very prestigious magazine, Neurosurgery, highlighted the Hadassah Medical Organization in its May 2005 issue with a feature story written by HMO physicians. The 14-page article describes the history of neurosurgery in Israel and the evolution of HMO's Neurology Department.

With the goal of gaining support for the Hadassah Medical Organization, Hadassah Luxembourg's president, Karine Reding-Reuter, created a bond with a local service club, "Service Club 51." The club members, mainly men from the business world, had never heard of Hadassah previously, reports Mrs. Reding-Reuter, but are now very interested in our medical center. They donated 1.251 euros to HMO and have expressed an interest in visiting the hospitals.

The rainy weather subsided just in time for the beginning of Hadassah Luxembourg’s summer golf tournament. “We had 48 players,” reports Hadassah Luxembourg President Karine Reding-Reuter, ”and 65 people took part in the dinner following the tournament.”

During the Hadassah International session at the Hadassah USA National Convention, Hadassah International President Marlene Post, along with other members of the Hadassah International team, presented a check for $6 million (USD) to Prof. Shlomo Mor-Yosef, Director General of the Hadassah Medical Organization. This check represented the monies raised for HMO this year by Hadassah International.
