At an annual luncheon, hosted at the Israelite Sport Center in Mexico, in the presence of the President of Mexico, Vicente Fox, and about 500 leaders and members of the Jewish community, Hadassah Mexico Director Ethel Fainstein made sure that the Hadassah Medical Organization and Hadassah International achieved comprehensive publicity. Actress Sharon Stone surprised the Hadassah Medical Center with an unexpected visit on her recent trip to Israel, hosted by the Peres Center for Peace. Ms. Stone was particularly interested in our hospital's work with pediatric AIDS. Hadassah Director General Prof. Shlomo Mor-Yosef, together with Prof. Dan Engelhard, Head of Pediatrics at Hadassah-Ein Kerem, accompanied Ms. Stone on a tour of the pediatrics department at the Charlotte R. Bloomberg Mother and Child Center, which was decorated for the Jewish holiday of Purim. Our doctors updated her on Hadassah's international role in treating and preventing AIDS, including Prof. Engelhard's recent visit to Ethiopia.

An enduring friendship has developed over the years between Hadassah and the Inbal Jerusalem Hotel. To be sure, this connection is based on firm business sense for both organizations; however, the Hadassah-Inbal relationship has ripened beyond the commercial tie into a supportive, familial connection. “We have a wonderful relationship with the Inbal Hotel, with its general manager Rodney Sanders, and with all the Inbal staff,” says Hadassah International President Marlene Post.

Hadassah Luxembourg's General Assembly 2006 featured a Power Point presentation by Professor Shlomo Maayan, Head of the Hadassah Medical Organization’s AIDS Center, illustrating his work in treating and preventing AIDS in Ethiopia.

On March 1st and 2nd, Hadassah Switzerland hosted benefit concerts featuring the Thelma Yellin Youth Symphony Orchestra of Givatayim, Israel, in Zurich and Geneva. Proceeds were earmarked for the Hadassah Medical Organization’s Center for Children with Chronic Diseases. “Medicine is a bridge to peace, and music is a link between people,” notes Hadassah Switzerland President Ellen Bruckmann. “This group of highly talented and dedicated young artists is a shining example of what Israel has to offer the world in the fields of arts and culture.”

Young Hadassah Israel had put flyers all over Jerusalem publicizing its upcoming fundraiser at the Cinemateque. Even though it was a toughly competitive week with Purim events dominating in Jerusalem, more than 100 people came to drink wine (courtesy of the Avi Ben Wine store), hear the Hadassah Medical Organization’s Professor Yoel Donchin's terrific lecture on the history of doctors as portrayed in the cinema, and to watch the Oscar winning film, The Constant Gardener.
