Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport was just named “Europe's Best Airport” by the International Airport Council's Airport Service survey competition. The new “Terminal 3” was designed by Hadassah International's 2006 Man of Distinction, Moshe Safdie.

When Hadassah Argentina President Debora Lang heard through a friend that Patricia Bullrich, a very prominent political figure in Argentina, along with a delegation of 16 people were going to visit Israel, she contacted her and offered to facilitate a special visit to the Hadassah Medical Center. She then e-mailed Ron Krumer, Hadassah’s Director of External Relations, who arranged the tour.

The Birnbaum family from the United Kingdom marked their donation of an incubator to Hadassah’s Neonatology Department with a ceremony at Hospital Hospital-Mount Scopus in October. About 40 family members and close friends joined Henry and Gabi Birnbaum, celebrating this occasion with their daughter, Vivienne Koslowsky, whose premature twin babies were cared for by Hadassah, both before and after delivery.

Elvy and Raul Tawil and daughter, Sofia, from Mexico, spent four hours touring Hadassah this fall. Following a briefing about Hadassah International and the Hadassah Medical Center, the family had the privilege to spend time with renowned Hadassah neurosurgeons Prof. José Cohen and Prof. Oded Abramsky.

Like all event planners, we in Hadassah International had a wish list of achievements for our International Leadership Seminar, which we hosted this past fall at Hadassah House. Not only was our wish list fulfilled, it was surpassed. Our delegates—75 from 14 countries*—were extraordinarily enthusiastic listeners. The large number of participants from Young Hadassah International, aged 20-35, added tremendously to the energy and productivity of the meeting. There was careful consideration of the ideas presented and thoughtful brainstorming as to how fundraising strategies and organizational structures should be tailored to match the cultural sensitivities in different countries. Networking and warm socialization took place every free moment.

Since “B” was born, she has been very sick. At six months of age, Prof. Orly Elpeleg, Head of Hadassah’s Center of Excellence for Pediatric Metabolic Diseases, diagnosed B’s metabolic disorder and began treating her.

Hadassah physicians are making progress in using stem cells to slow down age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Dr. Eyal Banin, Head of Hadassah's Center for Retinal and Macular Degeneration, and Prof. Benjamin Reubinoff, Head of Hadassah’s Human Embryonic Stem Cell Research Center, report that they created Retinal Pigment Epithelium (RPE) cells in culture that bear marked similarity to native RPE cells in human eyes. RPE cells are most likely to fail first when a person develops AMD, and replacing or supporting these cells may help slow down degeneration.
